In August 2024, A3 Environmental Consultants completed a wetland delineation for Professional Environmental Engineers, Inc. at a 23-acre site along Lincoln Avenue in Lisle, DuPage County, Illinois. The area, a mix of residential, commercial, and recreational land use, required a thorough evaluation to determine the presence of wetlands and any potentially critical habitats.
This project was supported by George Assalley, who contributed to field assessments and report preparation. Their work began in June 2024 with a desktop analysis, followed by on-site fieldwork in June and July. The project’s boundaries were later verified by DuPage County staff on August 7, ensuring the accuracy of their findings.
3 Distinct Wetlands
Three distinct areas were identified during the investigation. Wetland A, located in the northwest corner of the study area, functions as a stormwater drainage swale connected to the East Branch of the DuPage River. Wetland B, also known as Dragonfly Pond, is a man-made stormwater management feature planted with native species. Finally, Wetland C, just east of Wetland B, is believed to be constructed as a wetland mitigation bank which is required to be preserved as part of the development conditions set by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
EcoCAT Review
Despite the identification of these areas, none were considered “critical” under the regulatory guidelines. Additionally, an EcoCAT review—conducted as part of the assessment—indicated that species like the Black-billed Cuckoo, Blanding’s Turtle, and Northern Long-Eared Myotis might be in the vicinity. However, based on A3’s evaluation, none of these species were found to be using the wetlands as a habitat.
A3 Environmental followed strict protocols, using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Manual and its Midwest Region supplement. The project culminated in a clear understanding of the boundaries, verified by the county, ensuring that future site development would comply with environmental regulations.
The Lisle project completed in August 2024 highlights the practical value of early, precise environmental due diligence. By identifying three distinct wetlands, verifying boundaries with county staff, and confirming that no critical species were impacted, A3 Environmental Consultants provided a clear regulatory roadmap for future development on this 23-acre site. Projects like this demonstrate the importance of balancing growth with stewardship, ensuring that municipalities, developers, and environmental engineers can move forward with confidence. Beyond simply meeting requirements, this work underscores A3E’s commitment to applying technical expertise, regulatory insight, and field-tested accuracy in ways that safeguard both compliance and community resources. For clients, that means fewer surprises, smoother approvals, and a development process that respects both the built and natural environment.
