In May of 2024, Taylor Closen, a project manager at A3 Environmental Consultants, managed and oversaw the removal of the fuel tanks and the contaminated soil from the site over the course of seven days. This project was not just a routine removal but involved meticulous planning and execution to ensure safety and compliance with environmental regulations.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Environmental Project
Utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, A3E captured video footage and still photographs of the site. These aerial images were crucial in documenting the process and providing a comprehensive visual record. The data collected from the UAVs was integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS) reports, allowing for detailed mapping and analysis of the site. This integration provided valuable reference points that enhanced the understanding of the contamination spread and the necessary protections for workers during the excavation and removal process.
The use of UAVs in environmental projects is a growing trend, offering several advantages. UAVs can access areas that are difficult or dangerous for humans to reach, providing a safer alternative for site inspections. They also offer a bird’s-eye view of the site, capturing data that might be missed from the ground level. This technology enabled A3 Environmental Consultants to conduct thorough assessments and make informed decisions to mitigate risks effectively.
Document Existing Conditions
Our client used our drone services to document existing conditions. We were able to represent this data on plans that would serve as a record for future expansions of their plant. This information would help with the institutional knowledge as staff turned over. The data would keep workers and construction crews safe as they operated in the footprint of the project in the future.
